Neil Jerome Erickson, 83, of Fairway, Kansas, passed away January 16, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo. He was born on December 21, 1929, to Ernest and Margaret Erickson in Corning, Kan. He graduated valedictorian at Goff High School in Goff, Kan. He received a BS in Accounting from Kansas State University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and an avid Wildcat fan. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant junior grade during the Korean War on the USS Cogswell from 1952-1955. Afterward, he moved to Kansas City and became a CPA. He worked for many years at Tobin Construction Company. On November 18, 1967, he married Shirley Folsche.
Neil was kind and smart and had an incredible sense of humor. He enjoyed playing and watching sports. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dallas Erickson. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Erickson; his son, Fred Erickson, of Fairway, Kan.; his daughter, Dana Erickson, of Washington, D.C.; and his sister, Eileen Goldsmith, of Solana Beach, Cal. A private military ceremony will be held at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 23. A celebration of life will be held at The Peanut at 5000 Main Street, Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday, January 24 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. ?
