Nancy (Longenecker) Lamb, Overland Park, was born in Norwich, Kansas to Charles and Mamie Longenecker. She grew up in Kingman, Kansas and attended public schools there. She received a B.A. from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas and a Masters in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Kansas. Nancy was a Speech Language Pathologist in the Shawnee Mission School District for 29 years and used her skills to positively impact the course of numerous peoples' lives. As a longtime member of Prairie Baptist Church, she served on boards and committees including the Diaconate and Trustees. She also participated in their chancel choir and bell choir for many years. Nancy served as a volunteer for Shawnee Mission Schools, Shawnee Mission Hospital, Meals on Wheels, KC Symphony and the Theater League. Nancy was a life member of the American Speech/Language-Hearing Association, life member and past president of Kansas Speech/Language-Hearing Association, life member of the National Education Association, member and past president of PEO (Chapter HA), member and past president of Beta Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, member of KU Alumni Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Johnson County Retired Teachers, the American Association of University Women and past matron of Union Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star. As an active, adventurous woman, Nancy engaged in swimming, hiking, skiing and other outdoor pursuits. She enjoyed concerts, plays, symphony and jazz and traveled to more than 30 different countries.
She was a beloved Mother, Mother-in-law, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Teacher, and Friend.
She is survived by her two sons, Harold (Susan) Lamb of Exton, Pa and Charles (Brooke) Lamb of Eudora, Ks; her grandchildren, Sheldon (Angela) Lamb of Abington, Pa, Craig Lamb of Philadelphia, Pa and Bridget Lamb of Lawrence, Ks; and great-grandchild, Caleb Lamb of Abington, PA.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM, Friday, September 20, 2013 at Prairie Baptist Church, 7416 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Immediately following the service a reception will be held, also at the church. Inurnment will take place in Kingman, Kansas.
