MINNIE LEE (EVANS) HATAWAY
Minnie Lee (Evans) Hataway was born October 27, 1912 in Grain Valley, Missouri to Agnes and Chance Evans. She was their first born. Minnie grew up on farms in Oak Grove, MO., Columbia, MO., Bucyrus, KS., Osawatomie, KS., and finally settled in Kansas City, KS. where at an early age, she confessed her hope in Christ, was saved and was baptized at the State Avenue Baptist Church. She was an active member of the church, teaching Sunday school. It was at the church that she met her future husband, Cara Lee Hataway, who preceded her in death on December 23, 1989.
Minnie and Cara "Pat" Hataway were married on November 28, 1928 and had 61 wonderful years together. Together they had two sons, James D. Hataway and Cara Lee Hataway, Jr. Minnie was active in their family businesses, Hataway Electric in Kansas City, MO., and their coin operated laundry business in Overland Park, KS, and Kansas City, KS. She and Pat enjoyed their many travels around the world. She was a member of the Leawood Baptist Church, Zonta International for 45 years and a past member of Milburn Country Club. She was also a past member of the Garden of the Gods Club, Colorado Springs, CO. where she joyfully entertained the grandchildren in the 1970s while their grandfather played golf at The Broadmoor.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, James D. Hataway, her daughter- in-law, Marilyn Holt Hataway and her brother, Thomas Evans.
Minnie will be missed by her son, Cara Lee Hataway, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Overland Park, KS., her brother, Daniel Evans and his wife, Marjorie, of Scottsdale, AZ., her sister-in-law, Pauline Evans of Mountain Home, AR., her daughter-in-law, Vickie Britain of Shawnee, Kansas, and nieces Sandy and Lori Bien of San Diego, California.
She was a loving and proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and their spouses, James Hataway, Jr.(Janet) of Overland Park, KS., Pamela Hook (Brad) of Hawaii, Jeff Hataway (Michelle) of Paradise Valley, AZ., Deborah Hocevar (John) of Prairie Village, KS., Shawn Laitner (Doug) of Kansas City, MO., Cara Lee "Butch" Hataway III (Lee Anne) of Cedar Rapids, IA and Sue Payne (Ray) of Soap Lake, WA. She was a devoted great-grandmother of seventeen, Lauren, Kristen, Peter and Allison Hook of Hawaii, Jade and Carly Hataway of Arizona, John, Sarah and Bradley Hocevar of Prairie Village, KS., Max, Alex and Hannah Laitner of Kansas City, MO., Justin, Elise and Evan Hataway of Cedar Rapids, IA., and Aimee and Brittany Scott of Soap Lake, WA. Minnie is also survived by two great-great granddaughters, Kenadi Scott and Kaidy See.
Services will be Saturday November 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m. with burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 10000 W. 75th St., Suite 231, Overland Park, KS 66204.
