Millis Ray Golly, 97, of Leawood, KS, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was a loving, devoted husband and father. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5 at 11:30 am at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Pkwy, Kansas City, MO 64113, where he was a life elder. A gathering of friends and family will immediately precede the service beginning at 10:30 am. Private inurnment will be in the garden columbarium at the George Hamilton Combs Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Country Club Christian Church Permanent Missionary Endowment Fund.
A graduate of Purdue and Harvard in Civil & Environmental Engineering, Millis worked 20 years for the State of Illinois and later for Smith & Loveless and Black & Veatch, including 2 years with AMBRIC in Cairo, Egypt. He was a member of NSPE, WPCF, ASCE, IWPA, Chi Epsilon as well as a Diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Election to the academy is the highest professional distinction that can be conferred on an engineer and honors those who have demonstrated unusual accomplishments in the new and developing fields of technology. He served as an Army Major in the European Theater during WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Vera, of 68 years, 3 daughters, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 5 nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and many life long friends and co-workers.
