Melvin (Mel) W. Brocker, age 87, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away June 11th, 2008 at Kansas City Hospice House. Memorial Services will be held at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS on Monday, June 16th at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services for family members and close friends will take place following the service Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5005 Frederick Boulevard, St. Joseph, MO at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be Sunday, June 15th, from 4:00 to 6 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel. Melvin was born September, 11, 1920 in Irwin, Pennsylvania. A proud WWII veteran, Mel was a decorated pilot/navigator in the Naval Air Corp, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He married Mertice Lorene Rose in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1942. After his naval service, Mel worked for AT&T for 42 years, retiring as a Senior Engineer and Staff Supervisor. Mel is survived by his wife Mertice, daughter Cindy Ann Kelley and husband John; son Nicholas N. Brocker, and his wife Jennifer. Mel also leaves behind grandchildren Scott, Shannon, Ryan, Zack, Chad, Seth, Trent, Kiefer, Tanner and Dane, and great grandchildren Lilli and Noah. Mel?s family was his greatest pride and joy. We will miss his constant support, quiet strength, great stories and wonderful sense of humor.
