Melvin “Mel” Roy Metcalf, 89, left for Heaven Sunday, August 13, 2017. He leaves his wife, of 67 years, H. Maxine (Hoke) Metcalf; two sisters, Dorothy Garritano and Mary Bennett, both of Akron, Ohio; daughter, Cheryl (Harold) Carpenter of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Mark (Cindy) Metcalf of Tallmadge, Ohio; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of friends.
He was born August 19, 1927, the sixth of ten children, to Roy Sr, and Elizabeth (Barber) Metcalf in Tallmadge, Ohio. Mel lived most of his life in the Akron, Ohio area. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1945-49, and was employed by Goodyear Aerospace for 40 plus years. He and his wife retired to St. Petersburg, Florida, but recently moved to Kansas to be near family.
He will be greatly missed and remembered by his family as a loving, devoted husband, father and as “Gramps” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 3-4 pm Saturday, August 19th followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 pm both held at the Overland Park Church of God (Holiness) 6801 W. 74th St., Overland Park, KS.
