Maxine Gordon

Maxine LaVerne Gordon, 85, of Lenexa, KS entered the presence of the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Lakeview Village Care Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 18th At Mission Road Bible Church, 7820 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Visitation will be 12:00-1:00 P.M., Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Burial in Fontana Cemetery, Fontana, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Cross World Congo Field, P.O. Box 306, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 or Mission Road Bible Church. Maxine was born on February 13, 1923 in Kansas City, KS. She was a missionary for over 56 years in the Dem. Rep. of Congo (formerly known as Zaire, and previously the Belgian Congo). Maxine was part of the team working to translate the Bible into the native language of the Balega people with whom she spent her life. She also taught in their primary schools, assisted in medical duties, and was involved in Christian education work. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis A. Gordon and Mabel Blanche (Murphey) Gordon; three brothers, Rufus, Ray and Warren and one sister, Grace. Maxine is survived by her sister-in-laws, Doris Gordon of North Carolina and Gloria Munion of California; nieces and nephews; close friend, Glenda Owens of Hitchcock, TX; and many other friends and former co- workers.
