Maxine Palmer Dickerson
January 8, 1923 – September 5, 2011

Maxine Palmer Dickerson, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, September 5, 2011. She was born January 8, 1923 in a farmhouse in Anness, KS. The youngest of seven children, she survived the great Depression, WW II, and a tornado that in 1957 totally destroyed her Hickman Mills home. For more than 20 years she was the executive secretary to the General Manager of Avon Corporation. A longtime Episcopalian, she loved to volunteer her time, play bridge, and later games of bingo. One of her favorite experiences was going to Haiti for ten days as part of a medical mission team to help pediatricians in isolated Haitian villages.

Maxine led her life with grace, good humor, eternal optimism, and a caring attitude for everyone she met. She was a loving mother and grandmother who always made family her most important priority. She believed that any day was a good day if you could help someone out.

She will be missed by her two daughters, Pam McKinnie and Leigh Petry along with her husband Mark Petry; her grandchildren, Chelsea McKinnie, Adrek Gibbons, Elesha Gibbons Mathews and her husband Peter Mathews, Shaina Gibbons and her fiancée Braden Benskin, Sara Petry, and Curt Petry; her great grandchildren Collin Banks, Romann Petry, and Laila Jean Gibbons; her special grand-niece Erin Driskill Hood and husband Terry Hood, their children Max and Simone Hood, and her best friend Margaret Sample, along with many other friends and extended family.

The family wishes to express special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Sweet Life Rosehill, who showed her care and compassion during the last two years of her life.

There will be a celebration of her life at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 17, at Christ Church Anglican located at 5500 W 91st Street in Overland Park, KS 66207. A reception will follow in the Common Grounds Room located at the church.

In memory, those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on. Cherished memories never fade, because our Loved one is gone. Those we love can never be, more than a thought apart, for as long as there's a memory, they will live in our heart.
