MAXINE M. BOOKER, 86, of Overland Park, KS, passed away August 23, 2009, after a courageous 8-year battle with cancer. She was born April 1, 1923 along with her twin sister, Maurine, in Shields, KS to William B. and Clara Wecker Davidson. Maxine was a loving and devoted daughter and sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a woman of great faith, great humor, and lived a life of service in so many ways.
Services will be Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson Rd., Mission, KS, where the family will receive friends at 10 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m., and a luncheon in the church hall. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, KS.
Maxine was raised in Emporia, KS, and earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Denver where she met her beloved husband of nearly 62 years, Larry Booker. They were blessed with three children, five grandchildren, and most recently, three great-grandchildren.
Maxine and Larry founded a business that grew over the years into a retail home decorating center and wholesale wallpaper distributorship. In her forties, Maxine earned a Master’s degree from UMKC. She was a talented pianist, artist, and an active volunteer throughout her life.
Her family is indebted to Maxine’s doctors and caregivers from KU Medical Center and Catholic Community Hospice for their kindness, expertise and commitment to Maxine’s wellbeing and comfort.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Larry, daughters Laura Tiffany of Lawrence, KS and Ginny Booker of Columbia, MO, son Greg Booker of Shawnee, KS; grandchildren Kimberly Green and husband Brian, Michael Tiffany and fiancée Gracie Shaver, Kevin Booker, Missy Booker and Katie Booker; great-grandchildren Mary Green, James Green and Megan Green; brother William R. Davidson of Columbus, OH and sister Margery Purcell and husband Lloyd of Topeka, KS; nephew Bob Stone and and wife Patti; nieces Melanie Nolker and husband Bud, Joyce Daughaday and husband Carlos, and Judy Hoye and husband Dick; and many other family members whom she loved dearly. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Maurine Stone, nephew David Stone, niece Sylvia Stone and son-in-law George Tiffany.
