Mary Virginia (Horner) Hubbard passed away peacefully on March 18, 2020. She was in her 100th year of life with a sound mind and a strong heart, filled with love for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Charles Hubbard, and her daughter, Mary Davisson. She is survived by her sons, Bill Hubbard (Connie) of Kansas City, MO, Fred Hubbard (Bev) of Miller, SD, her four grandchildren, Angela Dalton (Richard) of Brooklyn, NY, Jameson Hubbard of Kansas City, MO, Joshua Hubbard of Spokane, WA and Trisha Richmond (Matt) of Canton, SD, and five great grandchildren (Charles Dalton, Eva Dalton, Hunter Richmond, Alyssa Richmond and Seraphina Dalton.)
Mary Virginia was born in Randolph County, Indiana, and lived in Merriam, Kansas for over 60 years. The family is so grateful to the team at Bickford at Mission Springs, where she received so much love and care over the last five years.
Her husband, known as Charlie, was a pilot, and she accompanied him on business trips throughout the country. The couple loved sports and were among the first fans of the Kansas City Chiefs when they started playing at Arrowhead Stadium. One of the most exciting games they attended was the 4th Super Bowl in 1969, when they cheered the Chiefs to victory against the Minnesota Vikings. Charlie and Virginia could also be found at K-State, MU, and KU games, as they had children and grandchildren with undergraduate and graduate degrees from all three universities.
Mary Virginia’s first love was her family, as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to Shawnee United Methodist Church where she attended Sunday service for many years.
