Mary Mildred Whitley Hollister passed away peacefully in Mission KS on April 24, 2014. She was 101 years young.
Mildred, as she was known to her friends, was born in Elk City KS on October 9, 1912. She was the daughter of Amy and Charles Whitley.
She attended high school in Wellsville and then Baker University and subsequently taught elementary school in Wellsville KS.
In 1936, she married William Max Hollister and they had one son, Charles Mark. The couple attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Kansas City MO where Mildred was a member of United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband Max, her parents, her brothers Charles "Toolie" and Earl and her sister Marge.
Surviving Mildred are her son, Charles (Mark) wife Gail; her grandsons Charles Scott, wife Britt, Olathe KS, and Jeffrey William, wife Lisa, South Kingstown RI; her niece, Diane Whitley, Dallas, TX; and nephews Douglas Whitley, wife Faith, Leawood KS and Robert Smith, Tonganoxie KS.
Mildred also leaves five great-grandchildren: Alex, Alyssa, Adilae, Max and Grace Hollister
Services will be held at Old Mission United Methodist Church in Fairway KS on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 PM with a reception following at the church.
Private interment in Wellsville KS to be held at a later date.
