Mary Margaret Birch, 94, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012. A memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Rd., Roeland Park, KS 66205. There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 24th at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Agnes Catholic church.
Mary Margaret was born May 2, 1918 in Parsons, KS to Charles and Margaret Potts. She graduated from Parsons High School and received a Bachelor's Degree from Fontbonne College in St. Louis, MO. Mary Margaret was married to Walter W. Birch on Oct. 6, 1946. She was a volunteer for St. Joseph Hospital and volunteered for the Johnson County Election Board. Mary Margaret was an active member of St. Agnes Parish since 1962. Her family was a large part of her life and she enjoyed playing Bridge with her husband as her partner. Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter W. Birch; a granddaughter, Alison Birch. Survivors include her three children: Margaret Ann Streeter, W. Joe Birch, and John W. (Catherine) Birch; five grandchildren: Adam Streeter, Matt (Liz) Birch, David Birch, Emily Birch, and Mark Birch; four great grandchildren: Reese, Paige, Laine, and Grace Birch; and many nieces and nephews.
