MARIAN GARDNER
Marian Gardner, 85, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Kansas City Hospice House from complications with leukemia. A celebration of her life will be held at Southridge Presbyterian Church, 5015 Buena Vista, Roeland Park, KS, on Friday, June 22, at 3:30pm. Visitation will be from 2:30-3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Private burial. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. Marian was an avid lover of all animals.
Marian was born in New York City, New York on November 21, 1921, daughter of Frederick Newman Knapp and Mildred Julia Graham. She spent her childhood in New York, her teen years living on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey with her aunt; and her young adult years in Pasadena, California. She worked as a secretary for the Business Department of UCLA. While in CA, she met her future husband, Ben Gardner, at a USO dance, and they married September 21, 1944, upon his return home from World War II. They settled in Johnson County, Kansas, and raised three children.
Marian was a long time member of Southridge Presbyterian Church of Roeland Park Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; and oldest daughter June. She leaves her daughter, Nancy, and husband, Bruce; son, Robert, and wife, Patricia; grandchildren, Debbie, Michelle, and Matthew; and five great grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
