Marguerite L. Fenner, 84, passed away from natural causes January 15,2011, at her home in Kansas City, KS. Services will be held at 1:00p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS with private interment at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Fenner was born June 28,1926, in Malta Bend, MO, and grew up on the family farm with a brother and a sister. She graduated from high school in Malta Bend; her mother enrolled her in college at Kansas State University with the goal of preventing her from marrying her boyfriend, George W. Fenner, who was in basic training in preparation of being sent to Europe to fight in WWII. Her mother was afraid that her daughter would become a war widow and thought college would keep her thoughts elsewhere. Marguerite got off the train in Manhattan, KS, and promptly got on the train to Fort Benning, GA, where she and George were married in 1944, a week before he was shipped overseas to join Patton's 3rd Army; the couple were together for 51 years until George's death in 1995. Marguerite moved to Kansas City and was employed by TWA until 1952 when she quit to raise a family. She began working for Herff Jones, Inc. in Mission, KS in 1969 and retired from there in 1995. Marguerite was a member of the Bristol Hill United Methodist Church, a volunteer for Cancer Action, and a member of United Methodist Women. She is survived by her son Rodney Fenner and his wife Leona of Eberton,AK; her son Arnold Fenner and his wife Catherine of Overland Park, KS; and a grandson Robert Fenner of London, UK.
