MARGARET ELIZABETH SPELLMAN
Margaret passed away peacefully at her home in Lenexa KS on Tuesday morning August 10, 2010. She was born November 20, 1916 to George E. and Catherine (Kate) Erie Hughes, in Kansas City, KS. She was raised in the Argentine area and attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and its Grade School, graduating from Bishop Ward HS in 1934. She was working for Panhandle Pipeline when she met her future husband W. Clay Spellman. They married in Amarillo, Texas in 1948 and moved with the construction of the pipeline. On October 16, 1949 she gave birth to their beloved son Thomas in Liberal, KS. The family settled in Houston TX to raise their son Tommy in the early 1950’s, returning to the Kansas City area in 1971. An avid painter, she also enjoyed crochet, needlework, quilting, crafts, cards, fishing, dessert, traveling and spending winters in Texas. Preceded in death by her husband, son, parents and two brothers George and Richard. Survivors include her sister Kathleen Fredericks, and brother Francis Hughes, care givers nephew Douglas Hughes and niece Stephanie Logan, Step Grandchildren, a host of Nieces and Nephews, also Great Nieces and Nephews, and Great Great Nieces and Nephews.
Services will be Tuesday August 17, at Holy Cross Catholic Church 8311 W 93 St, Overland Park, KS; Rosary will be said at 10:30 AM, Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, where she has been a member. Burial services will follow immediately at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park.
