Marcia L. Sheeley, 92, passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012. A visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27th at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Grace Hospice, 8900 State Line Rd., Leawood, KS 66206.
Marcia was born March 1, 1920 in Harrisburg, PA to Robert and Philomene Spooner. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Degree. Marcia enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp in WWII where she worked at Walter Reed Hospital and at an airfield in North Carolina. While in the service she married her first husband. They had three children and lived in several states before settling in the Kansas City area in 1969. Marcia married Bill Sheeley in 1992, he preceded her in death in 2008. She worked for St. Luke's Hospital in the orthopedics department for many years. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and golf. Survivors include her three children: Patricia (Jim) Eylander, Larry (Ellen) Jennings, Cathy Dunican; 7 grandchildren: Cheryl, Aaron, Megan, Kara, Annie, Mary, and Patrick; 4 great grandchildren: Brett, Micheal, MacKenzie, and Jared; she is also survived by a nephew, Bill, and niece, Ellen.
