Maebelle Hodges

Maebelle Parsons Hodges, 97, a resident of the Claridge Court Retirement Community in Prairie Village, died June 23, 2009 in her apartment.
She was born January 28, 1912 in Kansas City, Missouri, the second of three children to William Henry and Maud Beery Parsons. She was predeceased by her brother, William Henry Parsons, Jr., and her sister Ruth Parsons. Marbelle graduated from Northeast High School in 1929 and Junior College in Kansas City in 1931. She worked a couple of years at Central Surety and Insurance Corporation and at Universal Credit Company before accepting a job as a secretary for Newlin Mosbacher Machinery Company where she worked from 1935 to 1948.
On May 28, 1948, she married Elmer B. Hodges and they had two children; Richard, now deceased, and Deborah Williamson of Shawnee, Kansas. Mr. Hodges died May 16, 1986. Maebelle volunteered as the coordinator of the Mutual Help Sewing group at Bryant Elementary School’s PTA and Manual Training High School to provide clothes for needy children. She served as the president of Southwest High School’s PTA.
Maebelle was a member of Country Club Christian Church and served as a volunteer at the Well-Baby Clinic at Westport Presbyterian Church. She was a teacher and superintendent of the high school department at Country Club Christian Church and leader of Circle 18, at the church.
Maebelle received a degree in Speech and Hearing Science from UMKC in 1971 and volunteered as a speech therapist at Menorah Hospital and worked in private practice with William B. Latas. Her memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 26, 2009 at the George Hamilton Combs Chapel, 61st and Ward Parkway in Kansas City, Missouri. The family suggests no flowers. Contributions may be made to the charity of the one’s choice.
