Madeline Bannon, age 94, of Prairie Village, KS formerly of Wichita, KS passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008. Funeral services will be 6:30 P.M., Thursday, January 17th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 P.M., Thursday at the chapel prior to the service. Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, January 18th in the mausoleum at Old Mission Cemetery, 3424 E. 21st Street, Wichita, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer?s Association or the charity of the donor?s choice.
Madeline was born on February 9, 1913 in Orla, MO to Van Doren Johnson and Rebecca Vermillion (Becky) Johnson. She graduated from high school in Lebanon, MO and entered nurses? training at the Wichita Hospital. She met her husband, Jim Bannon, while working at the hospital and they were married on October 27, 1933. Together they owned and operated a tourist court in Augusta, KS. They moved to Wichita where their only child, Janice Kay Bannon (Norton), was born. Madeline was a member of Hillside Christian Church, Wichita, KS and the Eastern Star. She was a Girl Scout Leader and loved to play bridge. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; and her husband. Madeline is survived by her daughter, Janice Norton and her husband, Fielding L. Norton, Jr., Prairie Village, KS; two grandsons, James B. Norton, Kansas City, MO and Fielding L. Norton III, Paget, Bermuda; and two great grandchildren, Tiffany Norton and Fielding L. Norton IV, Lawrence, KS.
