Mabel Halling Meier, known as Babe, died at the age of 103 on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at The Forum in Overland Park, Kan. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 25, at Colonial Church, 7039 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. The family will receive visitors Monday at 10 a.m. at Colonial Church. A memorial service in New Salem, N.D., will be held on September 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ, 115 N. 2nd St., New Salem, ND 58563. Inurnment in Peace Cemetery, New Salem, N.D. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Colonial Church or to Salem UCC. Babe was born September 20, 1904, on a farm in Zion Township, N.D., to John and Martha Hookland Halling. She married Archibald S. Meier on June 25, 1928, in New Salem, N.D. After her husband's death in 1969, she continued to live in New Salem until 1992, when she moved to Prairie Village, Kan., to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She moved to The Forum in 2006. She was very active in her church and volunteer activities, and an avid and accomplished photographer. She was universally loved for her kindness, generosity and unselfishness. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Archie, eight brothers and three sisters, her son Robert Halling Meier and her great grandsons Gabriel Marquez-Uppman and Jasper, Samuel and Noah Losche. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Uppman and husband Gerald of Prairie Village, Kan.; her son James A. Meier of Brighton, Mich.; grandchildren Anne Meier, Evergreen, Colo., John Uppman (Kelly), Kansas City, Mo., Susie Uppman, Roeland Park, Kan., Elizabeth Uppman (Chucho), Overland Park, Kan., and John Meier (Trisha), Princeton, N.J., and eight great grandchildren. The family is grateful to the dedicated staff and the families of the residents at The Forum for the loving care and support they provided.
