Frances Marilyn (Lynne) Swedberg Schmutz, 88, passed away on April 20, 2011. Memorial services celebrating her life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Lynne was born on October 26, 1922, in Kansas City, and grew up in Kansas City, Drexel and St. Louis, MO. She graduated from Central High School in St. Louis and received her Bachelor of Science Degree
from Baker University in Baldwin, KS, where she met Kenneth M. Schmutz, her husband of 58 years. At Baker she joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and remained a loyal lifelong member. After marrying, Lynne and Ken moved between Missouri and Kansas with Ken's work, settling in Overland Park, KS, in 1958, where they joined Asbury UMC. She lovingly raised her three children, returning to work at Doty Laboratories after her son started school. She was a biochemist in cancer research at K.U. Medical Center for more than two decades prior to her retirement. Upon retirement, Lynne and Ken delivered Meals on Wheels in Shawnee Mission, and spent several years traveling the U.S., becoming "Winter Texans" for several months each year in Corpus Christi,
where Lynne indulged her love of golfing with other Kansas City friends. She was an active golfer at the St. Andrews and Overland Park courses and a member of Overland Park Trailblazers until her health failed. Lynne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ken, and her parents, the Rev. Andrew and Mrs. Agnes Anderson Swedberg. She is already missed terribly by her three children, Suzy and husband Glen Wilson of Houston, TX, Ricki Schmutz of Prairie Village and Kent Schmutz of Prairie Village, and by the grandchildren she adored, Sarah Schmutz of Phoenix, AZ, and Bryan Schmutz, who attends Washburn University in Topeka.
