Lura L. Lenge, 87, died at her home in Prairie Village, Kansas, on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, after a brief illness.
A nearly life-long resident of the Kansas City area, Lura was born May 13, 1922, to Frank H. and Mary Downing Knipmeyer in Higginsville, Lafayette County, Missouri. She was the youngest and last surviving member of a family of eight children. While still an infant, the family moved to Shawnee, Kansas, and later to Kansas City, Missouri, where Lura graduated from Westport High School in 1939. She was a long-time employee of the Babcock & Wilcox Company of Kansas City, where she very proudly worked as a secretary until her retirement in 1987.
Lura was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth V. Lenge. They had one daughter, Linda, now living in Hanover, New Hampshire and London, England. Other immediate family members include her daughter's husband, Stephen L.Waterhouse; two grandchildren, Melinda Harwood Waterhouse of New York City and James Stephen Waterhouse and his wife, Desmarie Waterhouse of Alexandria, Virginia; and one great-granddaughter, Reese Hayden Waterhouse.
