Leona Veronica Martin passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010. Mass will be said at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with a visitation prior from 9-11:30, burial in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 8th Ave, Ste 902, New York, NY 10018.
Leona was born on January 22, 1917 at the farm house of William Joseph and Anna Elizabeth Schwartz in Bucyrus, KS. Leona was preceded into heaven by her husband Frank Martin, daughter Theresa Martin, her parents, sisters Anna Mae, Margaret and Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by her sons, Frank (Laurie) Martin, Bob (Bridget) Martin, daughters Mary Ellen Winn, Kathleen Martin and Janice (Pat) Gillihan; Brothers William (Juanita) Schwartz and James (Olive) Schwartz; sister-in-law Anne Piro; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Leona was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Agnes Parish. She volunteered with Catholic Charities, coordinated St. Agnes sewing group, member of the St. Agnes altar society, member of the Sacred Heart circle no.2, member of the UMKC Retirees Organization and a member of Westwood Women’s Club.
