Lena Frances Pope, 84, a life long Kansas City area resident, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008, at her home. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. Services will follow at 11 a.m., also at the chapel. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, Mo. Frances was born March 21, 1924, in Independence, Mo., to John Robert and Lena Mabel Barnes. On May 2, 1945, she married Hayden B. Pope. They lived in the Kansas City area until 1967 when they moved to St. Joseph, Mo. There they owned and operated St. Joseph Art Glass Works until 1977, then returned to Kansas City to be near family. Frances also worked as a bookkeeper for Baltimore Bank for many years. Later, she was a homemaker, raising her children and helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Bob Pope and Dick Pope; and her sister, Opal Louise Barnes. She is survived by her daughters, Beth (Jack) McCale and Janet (Frank) McKenny; daughters-in-law, Teri Pope and Debra Pope; grandchildren, Brian and Courtney McKenny, Susan Scharsch, Frank Scharsch, Jason McCale, Katie, Michael and Matthew Pope, Cindy and Todd Curtis, Lori and Alex Dabak, and Jeff Watkins; and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Samantha Scharsch, and Jake, Kate and Finn McKenny.
