Laura Marie (Phillips) Young, passed away at age 68 in her home in Kansas City, KS on December 18, 2014. She was born in Princeton, MO on September 9, 1946, to the late George F. Phillips and Marjorie L. (Hampshire) Phillips, and was the younger sister of the late George D. Phillips. Laura married Allen Young in 1990 and they resided happily in Kansas City, KS for 24 years. Laura graduated from Princeton High School, Class of ’64, and also had held an Associate’s Degree in Business Finance from Penn Valley College. Laura worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for numerous businesses in the Kansas City area until her retirement in 2011. She also served as a private tax consultant for small businesses and families well into her retirement. She loved to travel, often visiting the beaches of Florida, and her cruise in the Gulf of Mexico was one of her favorite trips. Laura was also a skilled seamstress and would also spin wool for her crocheting and knitting needs. Laura had assisted the Princeton Boy Scouts, Troop 105, with their annual trips to Camp Geiger, MO, and was an active supporter of the Kansas City theater arts with her hand crafted costumes and set decorations. Laura is survived by her husband Allen Young; son David Dinsmore and wife Kristen; step-sons Robert Young and wife Mary, and Jeffrey Young and wife Jessica; grandchildren Isabella, Isaac, and Graham Young; and numerous others who referred to Laura as their “second mom” or “adopted sister”. Services will be held on December 27, 2014, at the Overland Park Funeral Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS; visitation will begin at 1 PM with the memorial celebration starting at 2 PM. Burial will be held at a later date (TBA) at the Coon Cemetery in Mercer County, MO.
