Laura McGrath Wood, 101, Overland Park, KS, passed away February 16, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 20 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave, Overland Park, 66207. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church or to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, KCMO, 64145.
Laura was born in Lapwai, Idaho to Charles and Marie McGrath. She was proud to have lived 101 plus years. Laura attended the University of Idaho where she met her future husband. Upon graduation she taught school in Kendrick, Idaho. She married Edgar Lyman Wood in 1937 and they settled in Wallace, ID. After raising their two children, she resumed teaching in the local high school and was active in community affairs and in her church. Laura was a PEO member in the Idaho Chapter X. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1980, the couple moved to Tigard, Oregon and enjoyed life, gardening and traveling extensively. In 1995 they moved to the Forum in Overland Park to be near family. They joined Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church. Her husband passed away six months after moving here but Laura remained at the Forum until she recently became ill.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and by her sisters: Lela, Lodia, Lida, and Bertha. She is survived by: her two children, Edgar James Wood of Seattle, WA, and Marie (David) Voysey of Overland Park; three grandchildren: Linda (Richard) Sizemore, Suzanne (Mark) Rucker, and David Edgar (Jenny) Voysey; ten great grandchildren: Michael (Ellen), Ann Mary and Joseph Sizemore, Alyssa and Alex Rucker, and Henry, Lucy, Charles “Charlie” and Robert “Bobby” Voysey; and two great great grandchildren: Madelyn and William Sizemore.
