Kathy Bagby

September 23, 1952 — July 24, 2022

Kathy Bagby, mom, nurse, volunteer, book lover, and taker of no BS, died on July 24, 2022. She hated being the center of attention and would very much prefer not having her accomplishments enumerated in the newspaper. Sorry, mom.

Kathy graduated from Loretto in Kansas City and went on to study nursing at the University of Missouri. She collected master’s degrees as she transitioned to a nurse educator and a mental health nurse. Kathy was also a fierce advocate for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. She volunteered on the crisis line at MOCSA for nearly 15 years, and the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence named her the Volunteer of the Year in 2012. None of these roles or accolades mattered half as much to Kathy as spending time with her children and being their 24/7 ask-a-nurse hotline.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Virginia Bagby, and her brother, Robert Bagby. She is survived by her children, Joe Zucht (Molly Thomas) and Kristen Zucht (Jordan Carlson), stepson Cord Zucht (Shelley), and honorary granddaughter, Hannah Zucht.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 4 at 3pm at the Overland Park Chapel. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite shade of blue (or anything other than depressing black). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity.
