Katie J. Nichols, 77, passed away peacefully at her home after a 21 year battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Monday, June 4th at 3 p.m. at the Bonfils Chapel of the Community Christian Church, 4601 Main Street, KCMO. The service will be followed by a fellowship meal. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger, IN. Services will take place in her home state of Indiana at the Goethals & Wells Funeral Home in Mishawaka later in the week. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Katie was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Mishawaka, IN to Greer and Mildred Pullin. She graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1952 and completed her nursing training at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN in 1955. Katie dedicated her life to taking care of others and retired from nursing in 2005. She married her fellow high school band member, Jack Nichols, in 1955. Despite her long illness she still enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, and raising her family, always with a smile on her face. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Jack Nichols; four children: Nancy, Mark, Dale, and Deborah; nine grandchildren; and numerous friends.
