Katherine Angela McGinley (nee Haughton), age 84, of Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Villa Ventura Retirement Community. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be at 10 ? 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. Internment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS immediately following the services.
Katherine (Kitty) McGinley was married for 57 happy years to Thomas M. McGinley who passed away in December 2003. Kitty and Tom met when they were in grade school and re-united years later when she was in college and he was in the U.S. Air Force.
Kitty was born in Pottsville Pennsylvania and grew up in Frackville, PA. Her parents were Nellie and James V. Haughton. Her brother James F. Haughton preceded her in death. She graduated from Immaculata College in Philadelphia, PA in 1946 with a degree in home-economics. After working as a dietician in a Philadelphia hospital, she became a full time home-maker.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kathleen McGinley of Alexandria. She also is survived by her nieces Jerri McCandless of Alexandria and Anne (Tim) Schmitt of Old Saybrook CT, her nephew James (Mary) McCandless, as well as grand-nieces Maureen and Megan McCandless, and Elizabeth Schmitt. In addition she leaves a number of wonderful friends.
