Katherine McCord Mendenhall

Katherine "Kitty" McCord Mendenhall, 87, of Olathe, KS formerly of Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Olathe Medical Center from pneumonia. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 8 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66204. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M., prior to the service. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO, that afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, 520 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
Kitty graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, MO in 1939. She received a Liberal Arts degree from Scripps College in Claremont, CA. In earlier years, she was a nurse's aide at the Veterans Hospital in Leavenworth, KS during WWII and was active in the St. Joseph Junior League and was part of the TV production staff at KFEQ in the 1950's. She was a novelist and a poet and had published 3 books. She was very proud to be a part of the Kansas City Writer's Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Lloyd Mendenhall; her father and mother, James Hamilton McCord Jr. and Katherine Sweeney McCord and her brother David Steele McCord. Survivors include her son Ivan James (Jo Ann) Mendenhall of Olathe, KS; her daughters Marilyn Mendenhall of Shawnee, KS and Kathy Daniels of Shawnee, KS; beloved grandchildren, Jim, Laura and Beth Mendenhall of Olathe, KS; her brothers, James Hamilton (Shirley) McCord and John (Mary) McCord and many nieces and nephews.
