Juanita Hellweg died Monday, December 18, 2006, at her home in Overland Park, Kansas. She celebrated her 90th birthday last June.
Juanita was born June 19, 1916 to Mr. And Mrs. George P. Wolf in St. Louis, MO. Her family moved to Columbus, NE when she was four years old. She was raised in Columbus, graduating from Kramer High School. Juanita moved to Lincoln, NE where she met and married Elmer L. Hellweg in 194l. When Elmer was stationed in California, Juanita moved to Los Angeles where she worked for I. MAGNIN & Co. In 1946, the couple returned to Lincoln where they lived until1959. At that time they began a series of transfers that took them to Prairie Village, KS, and Cedar Rapids, IA, and then returned the family to Lincoln. In 1969, they were transferred to Overland Park, KS where they have lived since.
On October 19th, Elmer and Juanita celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They raised three children: Dr. Kathryn Hellweg of Warren, OH, Robert Hellweg of Kansas City, MO, and Christie Holle of Parker, CO. They have four grandchildren: Shannon Raymer, Daniel Hellweg, Anne Hellweg, and Grace Hellweg. Juanita was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Hellweg was active in Bethany Lutheran Church where she was a long-time member of Elizabeth Circle, a member of the Woman?s Missionary League, regularly helped with Blanket Workshops, and played a key role until very recently in the Circle?s Braille Project that produced Braille books for the blind. In addition, she worked for the Johnson County Board of Elections from 1971-2003.
Survivors include: Her husband, Elmer L. Hellweg (Overland Park, KS); her children: Kathryn Hellweg, Robert Hellweg and Christie Holle; Robert?s fianc?, Gale Talis, and Christie?s husband, Kevin Holle; her grandchildren: Shannon Raymer (Lincoln, NE), Daniel Hellweg (Leominster, MA), Anne Hellweg (Carlisle, PA) and Grace Hellweg (Carlisle, PA); a sister: Dorothy Creathbaum (Amarillo, TX); a brother, Albert Wolf (Pueblo, CO); two sisters-in-law: Lucille Wolf (Mrs. George ? Green Valley, AZ) and Mary Hellweg (Dr. Harold ? Lincoln, NE); and sixteen nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Bokelmann, and a brother, George Wolf.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, 2006, 5:00 ? 7:00 p.m., at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. A Service Celebrating Juanita?s life will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, 91st and Lamar, Overland Park, Kansas. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
