Josephine Mason

March 8, 1922 — April 21, 2008

Josephine Mason was born at the home of her parents, Virginia and Murrel Harman, on March 8, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri. Her long life of 86 years ended peacefully on April 21, 2008 with her two daughters and her devoted caregiver, Debi, at her side. Her home was in Leawood, Kansas.
Josephine?s formal education began at Skarritt Elementary School, and she graduated from Northeast High School. She began working for Hallmark Cards, where she met her husband, Ed, who had a lifetime career with Hallmark. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She was a Kansas City Young Matron. She volunteered her time at St. Joseph Health Center and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary. She belonged to the Ladies of Charity and Women?s Club at her church and also served as an usher. She was a Cub Scout leader for her son, Larry, who preceded her in death in 1981. One of her greatest joys was to be helpful to friends and family and anyone in need. She knew the true meaning of friendship.
She enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, listening to country music, dancing, and especially eating chocolate. She had many homemaking talents her family benefited from such as sewing, cooking, and baking.
To sum up what meant the most to Josephine during her life, it would be four things: Her faith in God, her family, her friends, and Hallmark Cards. She admired and shared the values this great company was founded on. Josephine?s beautiful smile and caring nature will be etched in our memory forever. She faced many challenges throughout her life with courage and grace and left this world a better place.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 24, at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 95th and Mission Road, Leawood, KS. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 A.M. Thursday at the church prior to the service. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. The family suggests contributions to Cure of Ars Catholic Church and the American Stroke Foundation.
She leaves behind two daughters, Jolee Mason, and Kathy Beecroft and husband, T.J.; three grandchildren: Marc Parillo and wife, Catherine; Lisa Tobin and husband, Trevor; Meredith Beecroft; and four great grandchildren: Alexandra, Mitchell, and Isabel Tobin, and Caroline Parillo. The family wants to thank The Sweet Life for their support and care of our mother during the last few years of her life.
