Dr. Joseph C. Williams, Jr. M.D.
Dr. Joseph C. Williams, 86, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at his home. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 22 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terr., Kansas City, MO 64113. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 P.M. Friday, November 21 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66204. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to The Research Foundation, 2316 E. Meyer Blvd., KC, MO 64132 or St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
Dr. Williams was born on April 2, 1922 to Nona and Joe Williams, Sr., who was a former president of the Commerce Trust Co. He attended Border Star Elementary and South West High Schools. He was an Eagle Scout in troop 123 and a member of the tribe of Mic-o-say. He attended Missouri University for two years and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He completed his undergraduate work and medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, and then interned at St. Louis Maternity and Barnes Hospital.
In his second year of medical school he married Jeanne Dodds of Kansas City. For the next two years he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, as a Captain in the US Army. After the army, he completed his residency and started practicing in Kansas City at Research Medical Center, where he later became president of the medical staff. One of the most memorable highlights of his career was delivering the Giambrone’s quadruplets. Dr. Williams was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, member and past president of the Vanguard Club and member of BLASH Investors.
He leaves his wonderful wife of 64 years, Jeanne; his daughter, Camilla Cummings and her husband, Dennis; his son, Joe Williams III and his wife, Karen; and two grandchildren, Camp and Lexie Williams; his sisters, Marie Decker and Juliette Beeler and his brother, Robert S. Williams.
