Joseph A. Wettstein passed away Sunday, July 26, at the Kansas City Hospice House. Memorial service will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 31 at Atonement Lutheran Church, Overland Park, KS.
Joseph Anthony Wettstein was born April 6, 1914 in Spink County, South Dakota to Joseph Edward Wettstein and Ann (Benn) Wettstein.
After High School in Faith, South Dakota, he attended and graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota.
In 1940, he married Deneice Anderson. They were the parents of four children: Joseph, Jr., Kathleen Ann, Barbara Jeanne, and Mary Louise.
Joseph was a public school and college administrator for many years. His Master’s degree was from the University of Minnesota and his Doctorate in Educational Administration was from the University of Northern Colorado.
In 1965, he joined the United States Department of Higher Education regional office in Kansas City, MO, and worked in the Student Financial Aid department until his retirement.
After retirement, he spent time as a volunteer tax preparer and as a hospital volunteer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Joseph Jr. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Deneice (Denny) Wettstein, daughters Kathleen Reeve (Gary), Barbara Casey (John) and Mary Grant (Scott), twelve grand-children and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
