Joseph Anthony Schwind, Senior, 88, Prairie Village, KS, joined his wife in Heaven on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at the University of Kansas Hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2007, at St. Ann?s Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery of Lenexa. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. The Rosary recitation will be at 6 p.m. The family suggests contributions to either Wonderscope Children?s Museum?s Susan Schwind Oberhelman Memorial Exhibit Fund or Jay Doc Free Health Clinic. Joe was born on April 30, 1919, in Dubuque, IA, where he graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1938 and Loras College in 1941 and wed his wife, Edith, on July 8, 1941. He served as a Naval Officer during World War II and worked as Manager of A&P Tea Co. Super Market for forty years and then Fleming Companies. Joe and Edith moved to the Kansas City area in 1963 and became dedicated parishioners of St. Ann?s parish, where they served as Sacristans for over thirty years. His loves in life included his wife, his children and grandchildren, his Church, his friends, and Royals baseball. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Edith, and his precious daughters Judith Ann (died in infancy) and Susan Schwind Oberhelman (died in 2004). He is survived by his son-in-law, Steve Oberhelman, and Steve?s children Sara and Danny; his son, Joe Schwind, his wife Jane, and their children Cliff Schwind and Courtney Hart and her husband, Brandon; his brother Cliff Schwind; his brother-in-law Bob Kingsley and his wife, Kay; and countless loving friends and relatives.
