Joseph Guisinger

November 20, 1915 — April 3, 2008

Joseph E. Guisinger, Jr., age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, KS. Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 8th at Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church, 7406 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114 with a reception to follow for family and friends. Private Graveside services will be in the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery, Merriam, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ward Parkway Presbyterian Church.
Joe was born on November 20, 1915 in Kansas City and graduated from Paseo High School in 1933. He attended the University of Kansas and received his degree in Business Administration in 1937. During World War II ? 1941 to 1945, he proudly served his country as a sergeant in the US Air Force. Joe enjoyed a full and active career as a custom home builder primarily focused in the Leawood and Overland Park areas. He was a highly respected builder of unique, high quality homes in these growing suburbs. Joe Guisinger was a gifted and highly skilled craftsman who could build almost anything out of wood or metal. He personally built many of the special architectural features included in his custom homes.
His love for the outdoors and nature included fishing, camping and hunting. In later life, he had a passion for bird watching, landscape gardening and caring for the diverse wildlife in his back yard. His remarkable love and respect for animals of all kinds included special affection for his most recent pet, Smoky, the cat.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Nell Guisinger of Overland Park, KS; his four children, Robert Guisinger, Sue Williams, Carole Sandels and Allen Guisinger. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; along with his sister, Mary McCrory and many nephews and nieces.
