Mrs. Jonell Maxon

June 25, 1938 — April 7, 2013

Jonell Maxon (1938 - 2013)

Jonell K. Maxon passed away on April 7, 2013 at her residence in Lenexa at the age of 74.

Jonell was born on June 25, 1938 in Owensboro, KY to Forest M. King and Catherine (Harrington) King. She was the second of five children. She graduated from Owensboro High School in 1956 and later worked at General Electric in Owensboro where she met Edward Maxon. They married in December of 1961, had three children and moved to Overland Park, KS in 1972.

Once in Overland Park, Jonell concentrated on raising her three young children as a stay at home mom. In 1974 she discovered her new great love, the Kansas City Royals. Jonell was a lifelong fan of the Royals and spent many nights at Kauffman Stadium rooting the Royals on to victory. When she wasn't at the game, you could find her with a radio in her ear. Many highlights were attending playoff games in the 76, 77 and 79 and World Series games in 1980 and 1985.

Jonell always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a big laugh, a quick smile and never met a stranger. She loved her church family at Leawood Baptist Church, where she was a member since 1971. Her grandchildren were a huge priority in her life. As a "Nana" she spent countless hours doting on and spoiling them. She will be missed by all of her "Sweet Angels".

Jonell was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents Forest and Catherine King and brother John Byron King; she is survived by her daughter, Jennifer and Tony Smith; son Scott and Judy Maxon; son Tom and Andrea Maxon; her grandchildren, Savannah and Clayton Smith, Eric and Audrey Maxon and Brad Bishop; Brittany, Emily, Caitlyn and Will Maxon and Patrick Robinson; her brothers, Bruce, Forest (Butch) and Roger King.

The visitation will be Friday, April 12 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Leawood Baptist Church, 8200 Stateline Rd, Leawood, KS 66206; funeral services will begin at 10:00 am, with the burial service immediately following at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe, KS.
