John L. “Jack” Schroeder, age 89, of Leawood, Kansas passed away September 15, 2015. Jack was born July 19, 1926 in Boone, Iowa to Alberta and Amanda Schroeder. He attended a Lutheran Parochial school until his high school years, at which time he attended Boone High School, graduating in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corp in early 1944 and at the end of the war in Preflight training at St. Mary’s College in California. After being discharges he attended Iowa State College where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, graduating in 1948. Jack started his working career with Continental Oil Co. (Conoco), until he resigned in 1953 to work for Remington Rand Co in Wichita, Kansas and later in Kansas City, Missouri. While in Kansas City he embarked on a new career in advertising. He was a Media Director for various advertising agencies primarily Barickman Advertising for over 15 years, and retired from the Broadcast Marketing Group in 1997. Jack was a member of the Valley View School Board prior to the consolidation of the Johnson County School System. He was a member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church since 1960 and served both as an Elder and Deacon and on various church committees. For the past 20 years he was a volunteer for Audio Reader, a radio service for the blind and visually impaired located on the KU campus in Lawrence, Kansas. His hobbies included reading, traveling and photography. His first wife, Elizabeth Davis, whom he met in college and married in 1949 preceded him in death in 1990, having raised two sons, Jeffrey and David Schroeder. In 1996, he married Dorothy Peterson, she preceded him in death in 2012. Jack is survived by his son Jeffrey and wife Beverly of Kansas City, MO; son, David of Orlando, FL and granddaughters, Maggie and Katie. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Larsen and husband, Einar, of Ames, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Jack was a loving caring husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and friends. Memorial service 2:00pm, Friday, September 18, 2015 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
