John Noyce

John Dryden Noyce, 86, passed away on November 17, 2009. He was born in Las Animas, Colo., on May 14, 1923, to Alfred and Mildred Noyce. He grew up in Salina, Kan., and attended Colorado State University prior to three years in military service. He served in the 44th Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. John served as a regional sales manager for Federated Insurance Companies, later joining the Altman-Singleton Insurance Agency in Kansas City. He became a vice president of Sedgwick- James Agency, which later merged with Marsh and McLennan. John was a member of Leawood Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher. He served the Boy Scouts in many capacities, including unit leader, council finance chairman and council commissioner. He was the recipient of one of scouting's highest awards - the Silver Beaver - from the Coronado Council. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, past commander of the American Legion, and past member of Rotary International. John is survived by his wife, Ruth; his sons Jack (Jill) of Leawood, Jeffrey of Leawood; three daughters, Jane Patrick (Ed) of Topeka, Joan Brandt (Andy) of Leawood, and Jan DeLyser (Duane) of Diamond Bar, Calif. He leaves 12 grandchildren: Luke Patrick, Josh Patrick, Elise Patrick, Becky Brandt, Kelli Brandt, Jay Noyce, Jenny Noyce, Julie Lane, Sally DeLyser, Carrie DeLyser, Kathryn Noyce, and Will Noyce, and four great grandchildren: Melia, Lauren, Jacob and Evie Patrick. John was a great family man who always put his family first. He left a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those who knew him. A memorial service will held at 11 a.m. Friday at Leawood Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Leawood Methodist Church or Boy Scouts of America.
