John D. Lawrence of Overland Park, KS went to be with his Lord on July 30, 2009. He expressed that he knew where he was going before a heart attack took his life from this earth. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Prairie Baptist Church, 7416 Roe, Prairie Village, KS, burial to follow at Pioneer Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to, Prairie Baptist Church.
John was born August 26, 1934 in St. Joseph, Mo where he graduated from Central High School with the Class of '52. He received a football scholarship and graduated from Truman University, Kirksville, Mo where he met his wife, Jo Johns. They were married on October 12, 1957. He found a career he loved for 37 years with Farmers Insurance as an underwriter and attained his CPCU designation from Rockhurst University. He was chosen by his fellow employees to cut the ribbon for the new building's opening at College and Quivira. John loved to fish, hunt, and take family vacations in Jackson Hole, WY. Together, he and Jo played Bridge with friends, and traveled to all 50 states, Canada, and throughout Europe and the Caribbean. They joined Prairie Baptist Church in 1960 and were faithful members of the Chancel Choir. After retirement they bought a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks and made memories there with many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Alyce Lawrence. He is survived by Jo, his wife of 52 years, their son Matthew and daughter Lisa Johnson, her husband David, grandchildren Cody and Cole. Brothers, Ronald & Peggy, Dick & Ginny, Roger & Joyce and sister Beverly & Bob Riggs, many nieces and nephews and faithful friends.
