John Henry Hunter

John was born on March 1, 1942, in Bedford, Iowa, to Faye Hunter and Mary (Longfellow) Hunter. He passed away on September 9, 2024.

John obtained a degree in Engineering, then joined the Army after college. He worked for Texaco in Kansas City for ten years, before joining the team at Collum Brown selling air compressors. In his spare time, John took advantage of every opportunity to go fishing.

John dearly loved his wife Vida (Powell). They celebrated 33 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2022. John was known for always having a smile on his face and he never knew a stranger. His family could always count on him to make the holidays special in very meaningful ways. John and Vida enjoyed going to concerts together and always had music playing in the house or car. They were passionate about supporting many charities, always looking for an opportunity to help people in need. They loved animals so were particularly committed to supporting the ASPCA.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Faye Hunter and Mary (Longfellow) Hunter; his brother, Dewayne Hunter; daughter Angela Hunter; and granddaughter, Angel Hunter. He is survived by his daughter Mary Hunter, and six grandchildren, Spencer Babb, Brandan Wilson, J. T. Herbert, Joshua Hunter, Jordan Hunter, and Sharice Hunter.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested you honor John by contributing to the Great Plains ASPCA, 5424 Antioch Dr., Merriam, KS 66202.
