JOHN F. HOFFMANN
John F. Hoffmann of Overland Park, Kansas, died peacefully on October 31, 2010 at the age of 87. John was born October 5, 1923 to Dr. Paul P. and Hattie C. Hoffmann of Holyrood, Kansas. He graduated from Holyrood High School in 1941. After serving in the Navy in World War II, John attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. While at KU, he met his wife of fifty years, Therene (Terry) L. Nagely of Abilene, Kansas. They were married on February 26, 1950.
John culminated his career in engineering as the Chief Engineer of the Gas Service Company, retiring in 1985 after 34 years with the company; now part of Westar Energy. Upon retirement, John and Terry pursued an interest in antiques, often traveling to auctions and antique shows to buy and sell. John was a weekly volunteer for the Johnson County Library.
John is survived by his two children—son, Steve Hoffmann of Plano, Texas and daughter, Kim Hoffmann Fuller of Kansas City—and five grandchildren—Alex Hoffmann, Paul Hoffmann, Lauren Hoffmann, Tess Fuller and Kate Fuller.
John’s charm and sense of humor was endearing. Throughout his life he was a hard worker and steadfastly provided for his family. A Jayhawk fan to the end, John was dearly loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
The family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Bishop Spencer Place, 4301 Madison Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64111. Share a memory, sign an online guestbook, or express your condolences at www.overlandparkchapel.com
