Jerry Whitehead, 79, of Emporia, Kansas died at Olathe Medical Center on November 28th, 2019 in Olathe, Kansas.
Jerry was a very loved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to fish, spend time with his family, watch football (Go Redskins!), dance, joke and tell stories. Jerry was an amazing man.
Jerry was a retired Navy Seal of 25 years, having been one of the original Navy Seals. While in the Navy he was awarded the following medals: Bronze Star, Navy Commendation, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Navy Unity Commendation, 3 Silver Stars for combat action, Navy Expeditionary, National Defense, Vietnam Service and Sea Service.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Bridgett Whitehead of 49 years; his son, John Johnson and wife, Cherry, of Waverly Kansas; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and seven extended grandchildren, a niece, Debbie, of Virginia; five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, as well as several additional nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Whitehead; sister, Billie Fay; brother-in-law, Jim Whittington; sister and brother-in-law, Loretta and Buddy Knight; niece, Mary Kelley and nephew, James Riley.
Service with Military Honors to be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 4th at 12:30 p.m. in Leavenworth, Kansas.
