Jeanne Hirschberg passed away peacefully on March 12, 2013 at age 92. She was born to Walter and Jennie (Horner) Parkison in Glenwood Springs, CO, and attended the University of Colorado School of Nursing, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Cotter Hirschberg. They were married in 1942, had two children, and moved from Denver to Topeka KS in 1952 where Dr. Hirschberg was associated with the Menninger Clinic. She lived in the same home in the Potwin area of Topeka for 52 years. In 2003, she moved to Overland Park, KS to be closer to her daughter.

Jeanne worked as a Public Health Nurse for Shawnee County, specializing in pre-natal and well-baby care. She stayed busy as a Cub and Girl Scout leader, served on the Board of the Topeka Public Library, and pursued a life-long love of the arts and literature. She was extremely accomplished at textile arts as well. An example of her needlepoint resides in the Governor's Mansion in Topeka, and a Potwin Neighborhood Anniversary Quilt Project that she organized is owned by the Kansas Museum and has been displayed there and at the Topeka-Shawnee County Library. She enjoyed Native American Arts, culture, and collected artifacts – many of which have been donated to various museums. She also loved Japanese arts and gardens, Bonsai cultivation, collected rocks and stones, and was always busy redesigning her gardens to include these various elements.

Both Jeanne and Cotter were gifted with a wonderful sense of humor and greatly enjoyed life. They were always very generous and welcoming, opening their hearts and home to many, and formed lasting relationships outside the immediate family She will be missed and remembered fondly by all whose lives she touched.
