Jane Bryson

November 9, 1921 — November 9, 2011

Jane B. Bryson, 90, long time resident of Sanibel, FL, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday night. She had been on an extended visit with her daughter in Lenexa KS at the time of her death.

Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and very much her own person. In her life she overcame many health obstacles including polio as a child and at her death, she was winning her battle with cancer. A determined woman, she allowed none of these issues to keep her from her goals.

A first-generation American, she was especially proud of her military service during WWII. She was among one of the first groups of women in the Navy WAVES and served her country through the end of WWII. She continued her support of women in the military and was an early contributor to the Women in Military Service for America, specifically the Women in WWII Memorial.

Jane had a wide range of tastes and interests. She was well read, and well-travelled, artistic, politically and economically savvy, an amazing cook and a great story-teller. She possessed a quirky sense of humor, and loved to laugh. At times fierce and feisty, but always loving and caring, she was well on her way to making 90 the new 70 at the time of her death.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Edwin. She leaves a son, Dale A. Bryson, his wife Caterina, her four grandchildren: Daniel, Benjamin, Ruth and Sara of Heidelberg Germany; a daughter, Susan A Bryson and her partner Lyn Wolz , of Lenexa KS; and her beloved feline companion, Nicky.
The family would appreciate any expressions of sympathy be contributed in the name of Jane B. Bryson to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, or the American Heart Association.
