James "Jim" Nicholas Swiggart, 89, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on June 12, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House.
Jim was born April 28, 1923 in Wichita, KS, to Lawrence and Mindy (Bailey) Swiggart. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Jim was raised in Wichita and has been a resident of Kansas City since 1950. He worked for the Kansas City Star as a pressman for over 23 years and was an active member of the Pressman's Union. He later served as minister at Twin City Church of Christ for 13 years. Jim enjoyed woodworking and loved to share the product of his skills with others. He was a long-standing member of the Red Bridge Church of Christ. Faith, family, and friends were very important to Jim and he shared his faith weekly with the residents of Timberlake Care Center, providing Sunday worship services.
Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Roberta, four children, Glen Swiggart of Leesburg, VA, Twila (Mike) Jones of Rolla, MO, Marcia (Jeff) Pendleton of Kansas City, MO, and Karen (Mike) Sheffield of Manhattan, KS, ten grandchildren, Gwen Gresham, Jenny Swiggart, Sara (Phillip) Wauer, Brian (Leah), Kevin, Michelle, and Kara Jones, Kelly (Matt) Lloyd, Mindy (Vito) McMillan, and Nick (Denee') Sheffield, six great-grandchildren, a brother, Keith (Catharine) Swiggart of Maize, KS, a sister-in-law, Ellen Swiggart of Haysville, KS, a beloved aunt, Juanita McNickle of Burden, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mildred Lorraine Swiggart, who passed away in 1995, an infant sister, Ellen Swiggart, and a brother, Kenneth Swiggart.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 16th, 1:00 PM, at Red Bridge Church of Christ, 101 W. Red Bridge Rd., Kansas City, MO. A visitation will follow at the church until 3:00 PM. In addition, the family will receive friends on Monday, June 18th, 11-12:30, at Northside Church of Christ, 4545 N. Meridian Ave., Wichita, KS. Interment will be at White Chapel Cemetery, 1824 North Oliver Ave., Wichita, KS, Monday, June 18th, 1:00 PM.
