Mr. James King

James Hubert King, 78, passed away on August 17, 2013 in Sarasota, Florida. He was born on January 27, 1935 in Holcomb, Missouri, the son of June and Elizabeth King. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the wake of the Korean War and was a graduate of Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas. He spent 30 years of his career working in Air Traffic Control for the Federal Aviation Administration. For the majority of his adult life, he lived in Overland Park, Kansas. In 2004, he retired and moved to Sarasota, Florida.
He was a dedicated parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kansas, and St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota, Florida. He was married for over 35 years to Gladwin Mary King prior to her passing in 1995. In 1997, he married Kathleen King, who has been a devoted and loving caregiver.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David H. King, and stepson, Philip Haggard. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen King; sons James A. King, Houston, TX; Patrick D. King, Pleasanton, CA; and John L. King (Julie), Houston, TX; stepdaughters Cynthia A. Bay (Jeffrey), Chesapeake, VA; and Melissa A. Gartland (Patrick), Denver, CO; brothers Caroll S. King and Robert P. King; 13 grandchildren; and many other beloved family members.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23rd at D.W. Newcomer's Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 West 103rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24th, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.
