James Thomas Jennings, Jr. passed away peacefully at 1:20 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008, his 95th birthday. He has been a patient at Kingswood Health Center for a month. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 26th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be 1-2:00 P.M. at the chapel prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kingswood Foundation, 10000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114 or the charity of the donor?s choice.
Jim was born to Nell and J.T. Jennings, Sr. in Kansas City, MO, where he lived all of his life. He graduated from Kansas University in 1935 with a degree in Engineering. He was employed at Butler Manufacturing CO. for over 40 years in the engineering department and later in the purchasing department. He retired in 1983 leaving many years for an interesting retirement. Jim was a member of Sigma Tau and Tau Beta Pi honorary fraternities and Phi Kappa Psi social fraternity. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Blind Association. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) of 69 years; two sons, James Thomas Jennings III and his wife Mary Ann, Lawrence, KS and John Stephen Jennings and his wife Duana, Leawood, KS. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren are Robin Liston, Jamie Jennings, Wendy Grinstead, Karry Salvino, Erin Fela and Callie Jennings; and 11 great grandchildren.
