Jack Turmon

Jack B. Turmon, 75, of Overland Park, passed away Sunday, September 2, at his home.

Jack Turmon was born Sept. 26, 1931, Lone Wolf, Okla., to Julia and B.B. Turmon. The family soon moved to Hobart, Okla. Jack graduated from Hobart High School in 1949, studied accounting at the University of Oklahoma, and graduated in 1954. He met Betty Deere during their freshman year in college and they were married in 1953.

Jack left his accounting job in Wichita to take officer?s training in Fort Benning, Geo.; Jack and Betty then lived in Fort Smith, Ark., where he was stationed. After Jack left the service as a First Lieutenant, they lived in Wellington, Kan., for two years and then moved to Lenexa, Kan., where Jack worked at a downtown Kansas City accounting firm. Jack earned his CPA certification and joined the North Kansas City Development Company, where he remained until entering private practice in Overland Park in the 1970s, retiring in 1997.

Jack and Betty?s son Michael was born in 1964. In the mid 1960s, Jack served as the treasurer of the United Methodist Church in Lenexa. From 1971-74 Jack helped to establish, and coached in, the Johnson County Junior Softball league; he later served on its board of directors. Jack was interested in the theatre and served on the board of directors of the Barn Players for several years. A former high school football player, Jack was a college football enthusiast and a devoted University of Oklahoma Sooners fan. In recent years Jack and his wife have divided their time between Overland Park and Hobart.

Jack is survived by his wife, Betty Turmon, of Overland Park; his son Michael Turmon,granddaughter Celeste Turmon, and daughter-in-law Rebecca Niederlander of Los Angeles, Calif.; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Deere of Hobart, Okla. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Donald Pat Turmon, of Chicago, Ill.

Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at D. W. Newcomer?s Sons, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, followed by a memorial service at the same establishment, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2:00pm. Additional services will be held at the Presbyterian Church, Hobart, Okla., Friday, Sept. 7, with interment in Lone Wolf Cemetery. Donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
