Irene K. Miller, 96, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 surrounded by her family. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel followed by private graveside services.
Irene was born June 27, 1916 in Weir, KS to Albert and Lillian Knight. She graduated from high school in southeast Kansas and then moved to Washington D.C. to pursue her career in civil service. After her marriage to Martin J. Miller, they moved to Independence, KS where she worked as a secretary/real estate agent for Independence Realty. In 1969 she moved to the Kansas City area. She worked until her retirement for the IRS on Bannister Road. Irene loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J. Miller in 1980; and her sisters: Rosalie Semonick, Opal Buchannan, and Edna Mae Knight. Survivors include her children: Vicki Miller (Mark) Bichel, and Linda (Jeff) Peakes; seven grandchildren: David, Renee, Stephanie, Jessica, Christopher, Corey, and Ashley; great grandchildren: Mason and Hunter gave her much enjoyment in her last few years; her nephew, Eddie Semonick, and her extended family, Raymond Dray, Christy, Kimmey, and Kelsie.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Kansas, especially Patty and Lynn for their gentle loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Little Sister's of the Poor.
