Howard Ewing

February 3, 1935 — May 20, 2023

Overland Park

Howard (Howie) Ewing relocated to heaven on May 20, 2023. Howie loved people and did his best to show them God’s love. Howie was a character that always had a smile for everyone. A very talented man whose real love was acting and singing, he participated in many choirs and performances. Featured in several local commercials and was an extra on Sarah Plain and Tall. You can see him in the final scene, as they were pulling away in the carriage, he is on the porch with his grandson, waving at them as they pass. For 18 years, he had a not-so-secret identity as Santa Claus and he brought joy to all that he came across, even when he was not dressed up as Santa. Hallmark was so impressed with his look that they put him on one of their Christmas cards. He and his wife won the National Enquirer Santa Claus look-a-like contest they flew them to Florida for 5 days to hand out presents to the homeless children. He loved to work with his hands and always had a project in the works, He was also a great storyteller and poet, and one of his poems was published. His real passion, though was his family he loved and was so proud of each of them. He was a staff sergeant in the Air Force, where he met and married his wife of 65 years. They had two children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. There are several others that they unofficially adopted. Many lives were touched by him. This man’s heart was so big and so full of love. He wanted to be sure all his family and everyone he met knew the Lord and his love so they could all meet again in heaven someday. It is never too late to be forgiven for your sins and let God love and care for you. There will be no funeral but a private family celebration of his life. We ask that, in lieu of flowers; you send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
